Making Chicken Salad Out Of Chicken $#!%

Let’s just get down to it. I gotta get back in the Newsletter Writing Groove.

What I’ve Been Up To

This week I found an old canvas that I sketched on about 10 – 15 years ago.
I hated what I saw. It represented everything I was trying to do back then, none of which was even stuff I wanted to do. I just made things that everyone else was doing it.

I tried to erase it, but the lines wouldn’t lift.

So I started covering it up with watercolour pencils.

Then salt.

Then more watercolour pencils.

Then watercolour paints.

Then more salt.

Then some white acrylic ink.

Then a lot of black water-resistant ink (big mistake! Very messy!)

Then gouache paint.

Then I had an alien landscape which looked much better than whatever it was I was trying to do a decade ago.

This Week’s Pull List

I was a little late picking up my comics so this is like, two weeks worth of stuff.

  1. Alpha Flight #1

I accidentally ordered the standard cover and the variant edition. Oops! Oh well. This is the first time I picked up an Alpha Flight comic and wanted to read the next one right away. I feel I’m supposed to like Alpha Flight because I’m Canadian, but aside from Volume 2, I usually stopped buying after the first issue. If every issue is like this, I’ll buy the whole series.

  2. Dark X-Men #1

I was skeptical at first, but really ended up enjoying this issue. Like Alpha Flight, if they keep producing entertaining stories, I’ll keep buying.

  3. Daredevil #14

I only read one other issue from this series. I just wanted to see if it was going to be worth buying the omnibus next year. Yeah, I think it will be. It’ll be sad to see a new writer take over, but if I can have this all self contained in one edition, I’ll be happy with it.

  4. WILDC.A.T.S.: Better Living Through Violence HC

I have been a WILDC.A.T.S fan since I was a kid. I like this new version of the team that has been integrated into the DCU proper. I picked up a later issue and wanted to get caught up on what I missed. It was a fun read. So fun that I cancelled my monthly subscription and set it up so I only get these collected hardcover editions instead. It’s much nicer to read in one sitting, and they store nicer on my bookshelf.

What Is That Other Newsletter You’re Doing?

I’m doing a personal newsletter which covers a larger variety of my interests outside of comics. If you like what you read here, but would like to hear about other topics, feel free to give it a read and/or subscribe.

Anything Else Going On?

Not really.

This upcoming week is going to be a writing week. I’ve got my little art station all set up here and ready for comic production. Now I just need to get my scripts done so I’m not drawing for nothing, or writing myself into a corner later.
