Good morning,
My nine month old son decided to get up at 5am, so now we’re all up at 5am. Thankfully, I was functional enough to operate the coffee maker, which makes the world seems far more tolerable.
Evergreen Comic Content
I made this comic after I sold my old house. It seems to be just as relevant today as it did last year.
Posting From The App
Today I have been fortunate enough to be given access to beta test a new feature that lets you post FROM the Substack iOS app.
I’m writing this up as a test post, and if it works (ie. doesn’t crash halfway through and delete all my work), I’ll be updating @morningcoffeecomics MUCH more often.
Kinda Handy
We just moved into this new house about a month ago, but I noticed that no one was using the 60 year old door bell. Upon investigation, I found it didn’t work unless you repeatedly push the button. This lead me to Amazon, where I found a sale on Ring doorbell cameras. Prior to my life as a writer, I spent 13 years working in the home alarm and automation industry. I say this, because I didn’t feel the need to hire someone to replace something as simple as a doorbell.
Upon removing the doorbell, I found the problem: 60 years of rust and multiple sacks of spider eggs between the leads. I didn’t even bother trying to fix or save them for another project. The doorbell cameras were easy to swap out and set up, I just have to put some silicon around the edges to make sure no moisture (or spiders) get in there like the previous doorbells.
How ‘Bout That Weather?
I had plans to do yard work this week, my lawn has become a jungle, and I have a massive pile of dirt in my back yard that needs to be spread out, but I don’t believe it is worth giving myself heat stroke.

I few years ago this work would have been done by now, but with us just having moved in, the project todo list is piling up, and I don’t seem to be as young and full of limitless energy as I once was.

The high today is supposed to reach 39°C (102.2°F for those of you not on the metric system), so I am going to work on rebuilding my home office space in my air conditioned basement until the temperatures go back to normal on Monday.
That’s All For Now
I have to say, it is pretty nice being able to post directly from my phone. It’s now 10am, and I was able to write most of this while holding a sleeping baby in my arms (and I still am). This is a pretty great way to multitask. You can outline your newsletter and just fill out the sections as you have time. These past few months I haven’t really been able to open my laptop and get any personal projects done, so if this publishes properly, this could be a game changer for me, (and other creatives who have young children they need to keep a close eye on.)
